Dickerson and Colts Meet Rams at Anaheim

Ram fans, warm up your vocal cords. Eric’s coming home.

The National Football League schedule was released Friday and it set the date for former star Eric Dickerson’s first return to Anaheim since his controversial trade to the Indianapolis Colts in 1987. The Rams will play the Colts in their home opener at Anaheim Stadium on Sept 17.

Not only will the occasion mark the first chance for fans to publicly display emotions over the trade that Dickerson all but forced, but it also provides the Rams a good chance to size up the deal. By game time, the Rams figure to field seven players received in compensation for Dickerson--three first-round draft choices, three seconds and tailback Greg Bell.

The Rams also cleared a major obstacle by not having to face the San Francisco 49ers on the road in the season finale, proving it does pay to pick up the phone and complain to the league office. The Rams had grown irritated after facing the 49ers on the road in Week 16 three of the last four seasons. They will play the 49ers in Candlestick Park on Oct. 1, and will play host to San Francisco in a Monday night game Dec. 11.
