CSUN Tuition Increase: More for Less

Share

Recently the California State University Board of Trustees increased the cost of tuition. Starting in September of this year, the price for a full-time student to attend Cal State Northridge for one year will be $1,008, up from $876.

This would not be so upsetting for some if they could get what they paid for. Many of the CSUN students find that gaining entrance to the classes for their graduation requirements can be a major feat. I can only imagine how horrible it must be to have only three or perhaps six units standing in the way to my graduation this May, simply because the university over-enrolled and did not make up the difference by offering more classes.

Students in this situation have one alternative, though. They can open up their wallet once again and pay more money for summer sessions. This is not a realistic solution for those seniors who have accepted offers in their chosen fields from prestigious firms with the understanding that they will begin after graduation in May.

It seems as though it always comes back to the dollar. Students do not expect a free lunch, but shouldn’t one expect a filling in the sandwich one pays for?
