San Francisco police declined to link gang rivalry to a drive-by barrage of 40 gunshots that left two people dead and nine injured in a neighborhood known for gang activity, drug-dealing and violence. The victims, ranging in age from 14 to 20, had no known gang affiliations, said Police Chief Frank Jordan during a news conference at the Hall of Justice, where he was accompanied by Mayor Art Agnos. Both men appealed for public support in maintaining peace in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood and providing information to investigators looking for four young male suspects.
