Dow Joins Venture in China: Dow Chemical Co. said it has entered a joint venture to build a $50-million chemical plant in China. Dow said it will join with China’s Zhejiang Chemical Factory to build a plant in Ningbo. The new company, Zhejiang Pacific Chemical Corp., will start producing 20,000 metric tons a year of polyether polyol for China’s growing polyurethane foam industry in 1993. Polyether polyol is used to make foam for cushions and laminated fabrics for insulation. Dow has also joined a consortium of Western firms studying expansion of a petrochemical complex in Shevchenko in the Soviet Union to help in the the manufacture of styrene plastics and ethylene derivatives.
