Marchers Protest Shooting by Police

More than 100 people demonstrated outside Inglewood City Hall on Monday to protest the fatal shooting by police of 23-year-old Javier Arreola at the end of a 100-mile freeway chase last week.

One of the marchers, Joe Alarcon, described Arreola as a nonviolent man who “didn’t even carry a gun.”

The rally was held several hours after Arreola was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. With the marchers were Arreola’s wife, Adriana Montani-Arreola, and his two sons.

Inglewood police said Arreola led them and sheriff’s deputies from Orange and Riverside counties on the lengthy chase at speeds up to 100 m.p.h. after his van was seen circling a construction site early last Wednesday.
