A Mexicali man was charged Wednesday by a federal grand jury in San Diego with importing and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.
U. S. Atty. William Braniff said that if convicted, Miguel Ramos-Oliveros, 19, would face a minimum mandatory prison sentence of 10 years to life and a $4-million fine.
Ramos-Oliveros was stopped by customs agents March 31 at the Calexico Port of Entry, said Assistant U. S. Atty. Randy K. Jones, who is prosecuting the case. A search of Ramos-Oliveros’ station wagon turned up 139 pounds of cocaine concealed in the right spare tire well, Jones said.
The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned Friday before U. S. Magistrate Roger Curtis McKee.
