Sunscreen Lotion Won’t Bug Users

Just in time for summer, there’s Rescue, a sunscreen lotion that repels bugs and doesn’t wash off easily when you wade in the water.

Steve Schulze, a 26-year-old Newport Beach entrepreneur who has produced other tanning products through his Body 2000 company, got the idea for the new lotion because he was tired of applying sunscreen and insect repellent when he played golf. His new product contains no pesticides, offers sunscreen protection from 4 to 25 SPF and is PABA free. Its active sunscreen ingredients are octyl methoxycinnamate and benzophenone-3.

Rescue, a company spokeswoman said, underwent laboratory and field tests in California and Hawaii. Non-greasy and citrus fragranced, it is especially effective against mosquitoes. It is safe for adults and children, though it is not recommended for use on infants younger than 6 months without doctor approval, its manufacturers said.

A 4-ounce bottle costs $5.95 and can be ordered through the company’s toll-free number, (800) 537-6227.

Bundle Old Papers

If you have stacks of newspapers waiting for disposal or recycling, consider the Paper Packer, a wood newspaper storage bin that holds a month’s worth of old papers and has a simple mechanism for easy bundling.

Built of oak, the 17 1/2x15 1/2x13-inch Paper Packer comes with wire bundling straps that fit in the bottom and up the sides of the bin. When you’re ready to pack the papers, just slip the straps around the pile for easy carryout.

Paper Packer is available from Chef’s Catalog, 3215 Commercial Ave., Northbrook, Ill. 60062; phone (800) 338-3232. It costs $24.95, plus $4.95 for shipping and handling. Sets of 36 extra straps and buckles for bundling additional newspapers are $9.99 each.
