Today’s Schedule for L.A. International Film Festival
The American Film Institute Los Angeles International Film Festival opens today for two weeks at the Cineplex Odeon Century Plaza Cinemas. Here is today’s schedule:
‘The Laserman’
United States, 1988, 91 minutes
6:30 p.m.
By acting and producing as well as writing and directing, the usually deft Peter Wang (“The Great Wall is a Great Wall”) stretches himself too thin in this frail character comedy about a police lieutenant in New York’s Chinatown tracking laser-weapon villains. Many of the jokes bounce off the character of a Jewish mother with an adoptive Chinese son; racial stereotypes are Wang’s target but his humor is broad and forced and the rest of action is flaccid.
