Laguna Niguel : County to Renovate Reservoir at Park
Starting Saturday, Sulphur Creek Reservoir will be closed while it is drained and refurbished.
The lake, in Laguna Niguel Regional Park, has had increasing problems with algae growth, organic sedimentation, high turbidity and low levels of dissolved oxygen resulting in poor water quality and a reduced game fish population, according to the county Environmental Management Agency.
The project includes draining the lake to allow for the installation of a new dam outlet structure, dredging of bottom sediment, improving lake access and enhancing the habitat for fish.
There will be no access to the lake for the next 11 months, but the other recreational facilities in the park will be open.
