Khomeini’s Ex-Heir Reported in Custody

ATHENS —
The Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, who was once in line to succeed the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as Iran’s supreme leader, is under house arrest in the holy city of Qom, a source in Tehran said Thursday.
Word of Montazeri’s status came by telephone shortly after a Baghdad-based Iranian opposition group said Revolutionary Guards and security men had arrested relatives of Montazeri after his fall from grace.
