North’s Trial in Iran-Contra Fiasco

I was truly fascinated by the explanation given by North’s attorney as to why former President Reagan should appear as a defense witness for his client. I quote, “In this country a President is elected up from the masses, and when his time is over, he goes back to the masses, we are talking about a person who is retired from public life.”

Now I really don’t know how much those Eastern fellas back there in Washington know about Southern California, however, a former President who lives in Bel-Air, has a plush office in Century City and spends his weekends in Rancho Mirage with Walter Annenberg (former ambassador) and Sam Walton (chairman of Wal-Mart stores) is hardly returning to the masses, surely none of the masses I hang around with!

I think it is also ironic that Reagan has steadfastly refused to be a witness for a man (North), whom he called a national hero not so very long ago.
