Share

A Hollywood man was ordered Friday to face trial June 6 on charges that he murdered a Newport Beach ophthalmologist in January and then stole his Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Superior Court Judge Myron S. Brown set the trial date as Allen J. Lindsey, 23, entered a formal plea of not guilty at his arraignment in Santa Ana.

Described by prosecutors as a male prostitute, Lindsey is accused of having murdered Boonkird Chualpatrcheevin, 45, on Jan. 19.

The doctor, a native of Thailand with a practice in Santa Ana, was found dead in his oceanfront duplex of a stab wound. Lindsey was arrested 5 days later on suspicion of murder after Los Angeles police stopped him while he was driving Chualpatrcheevin’s car. The car was stolen the night of the doctor’s murder, Newport Beach police said.

Lindsey and his attorney, claiming self-defense in the attack, have said that the defendant and the victim may have been homosexually linked and that Lindsey was invited to the doctor’s home.
