SDSU Has an Off Day at Football Practice

Share

Despite some bright individual performances Friday, San Diego State football Coach Al Luginbill was not pleased with his club’s second scrimmage of the spring. Neither was Barry Lamb, defensive coordinator

“That was a rag-tag outfit today,” said Luginbill. “I don’t know what the problem is, but we’ll get it corrected. We won’t play like that again. Football teams can’t be like yo-yos. We have to play with intensity on every play.”

Said Lamb: “It was disappointing because we came out and played hard and played well in the first few series. Things were going real well, and then they stopped going well. We never recaptured our intensity level.”

Defensive back John Wesselman had two interceptions, returning the first one 50 yards. And defensive linemen Bob Graff and Pio Sagapolutele each had two sacks.

COLLEGE SIGNINGS

Art Massey, a 6-foot-1 guard from Alvin Community College near Houston, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at San Diego State. He is the fourth community college player to commit to the Aztecs this spring.

Sandra Perkins, a 6-3 center from Coffee High in Florence, Ala., signed with SDSU’s women’s basketball team. Perkins, who averaged 28 points and 18 rebounds, was the Alabama player of the year and led Coffee to a second-place finish in the state’s 5-A division.
