Despite a published report that JoAnn Falletta has been offered the post of music director of the Long Beach Symphony, the chairman of the search committee insists that negotiations with five candidates for the job are not yet concluded, and that no contracts have been signed. Margie Masterson, who heads the committee, said there was nothing to announce at this time. Falletta, 34, already holds posts as music director of the Queens Symphony in New York, the Denver Chamber Orchestra, and the Bay Area Women’s Symphony. Falletta conducted a successful public concert with the Long Beach Orchestra on April 8.
