MacFarlane, 37, was hired as a deputy press secretary in 1986 and became head of the mayor’s three-member press office in October, 1987. MacFarlane had worked as a producer and reporter for Los Angeles news radio station KFWB and as Sacramento bureau chief for California Public Radio. His resignation is effective May 12.

Bradley, who is on an 11-day trade mission in the Far East, has not yet named a replacement for MacFarlane.
