A Santa Ana man was in critical condition and his brother in serious but stable condition after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a 1973 Plymouth early Monday, police said.

William Glen Gavin, 29, and Christopher Gavin, 25, were northbound on Grand Avenue at 2:40 a.m. when a car traveling without headlights on 15th Street, perpendicular to Grand, crossed in front of them, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said. The motorcycle broadsided the car on the driver’s side.

The driver of car ran away, no arrest has been made and the accident is under investigation, Thomas said.

William Gavin, the motorcycle driver, is in critical condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center’s intensive care ward, with head and abdominal injuries and fractures to his left arm. His brother is in serious but stable condition at the same hospital with a broken right leg, facial cuts and bruises.

Neither man was wearing a helmet, Thomas said.
