One other thing that might help alleviate student loan defaults is to give the tiny handful of us fools who actually are paying back our loans a full or partial federal income tax deduction for the interest we pay. Effective the first of this year, the only benefit that I am getting for paying back my guaranteed loan is a clear conscience.
