During July, the weekend editions of NBC’s “Nightly News” will originate from Washington as a test of whether they should be based there permanently. Maria Shriver and Garrick Utley now co-anchor “Sunday Today” from Washington, but anchor the weekend “Nightly” report in New York, Shriver on Saturday and Utley on Sunday. A “Nightly” shift to Washington would end their weekend airline commuting. That doubtless would please Shriver, who logs much airline time anyway. She still lives in Los Angeles and flies to New York and Washington for her anchoring duties and to other cities on story assignments.
