Insurer Ups Rates

The Mercury group of insurance companies will implement an average 8% auto insurance rate increase statewide on policies renewed after May 1, the company’s chairman, George Joseph, said Friday.

Joseph said it was the first general increase by Mercury, one of the state’s top 10 sellers of auto insurance, in about a year.
