From Times staff and wire service reports

A car crashed into a wall in Northridge early today, killing a 30-year-old Arleta man, Los Angeles police said.

Javier Salazar was driving his 1968 Volkswagen east on Nordhoff Street shortly after 3 a.m. when he swerved across the westbound lanes, over a sidewalk and into the wall just east of Encino Avenue, Officer Richard Neuenschwander said.

The car overturned and Salazar was thrown through the front windshield, Neuenschwander said. Police believe that Salazar, who died at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, was not wearing a seat belt, he said.
