Israeli conductor Yoav Talmi has been appointed music director of the San Diego Symphony and has signed a three-year contract. Talmi, who will be 46 on Friday, currently serves as music director of the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. He formerly held conducting posts in West Germany and Holland. Talmi will conduct the San Diego Symphony in its May 5-6 concerts, then will return to open the orchestra’s 1989-90 season on Oct. 13.
