Newport-Mesa Pupils Win Awards; Their Artworks Will Be Displayed

Newport Beach City Councilwoman Jean Watt and Marilee Stockman of the Newport Beach City Arts Commission announced the winners of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Art Awards on Thursday night at the Imperial Savings Building in Newport Beach.

In the three-dimensional category, the winners were Taryn Guemer, first place for “Baby Taryn”; Tyler Puzust, second place for “Prison,” and April Gregg, third place for “Black Bear.” All are from Newport Harbor High School.

In the two-dimensional category, the winners were Buckley Crispin, first place and best in show for “Come Together”; Randy Singer, second place for “Winter Tigers,” and Louie Schober, third place for “Comfort.” All attend Newport Harbor High School.

Winners of the Costa Mesa Art League awards were Alfren Sanchez of Costa Mesa High School, best in show for “The Green Room”; Edward Pajaro of Costa Mesa High School, first place for “Majestic Scene”; Felina Danalis of Estancia High School, second place for “My Letterman,” and Thi Nguyen of Costa Mesa High School, third place for “Weathered Dragons.”

The competition was sponsored by the Costa Mesa Art League, Lido Marina Village and the Newport Beach City Arts Commission. Winning works of art will be displayed at the bank building, 3366 Via Lido, through May 1.
