Heads of Jerusalem’s Christian churches denounced Israel’s handling of the Palestinian unrest in occupied Arab areas in a statement sent to the United Nations and foreign diplomats in Jerusalem, church sources said. “In Jerusalem, on the West Bank and in Gaza, our people experience in their daily lives constant deprivation of their fundamental rights because of arbitrary actions deliberately taken by the authorities,” the statement said. Church sources said the statement was signed by the heads of the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Syrian Orthodox, Armenian, Greek Catholic and Anglican Churches. About 50,000 of the 1.7 million Palestinians in the occupied areas are Christians, mostly members of the Greek Orthodox church.
