The shopping center was getting run down enough that the neighbors are sending the new owners thank-you notes. Santa Ana real estate investor Provincial Properties Inc. bought the Nohl Plaza Shopping Center in Orange recently for $8.9 million from two private investors, who had begun the renovation that Provincial is finishing.

"It's not very often that shopping centers are sent 'thank you' letters from nearby residents," said Paul K. Thompson, president of Provincial, which says it is general partner for several limited partnerships involving $100 million worth of real estate.

The center--at Lincoln Avenue and Tustin Street--had been called Olive Court.
