Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-Run in Pacoima
A Lake View Terrace woman has been arrested on felony manslaughter charges after her mini-van collided with a motorcycle, killing the passenger and seriously injuring its driver, police said.
Los Angeles Police Officer Mel Scholl said Sheila Jones, 31, sped away after her van struck a motorcycle driven by Martin Mejia, 19, of Pacoima while turning left onto Paxton Street from Bradley Avenue in Pacoima.
Mejia’s passenger, Juan Torres, 25, of Pacoima was killed in the Friday night accident. Mejia was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and treated for cuts and a concussion.
Jones was arrested Friday night at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley on a charge of felony manslaughter, after hospital officials notified authorities that they were treating someone for injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The patient had been riding in Jones’ van.
Jones is in custody at Van Nuys Women’s Jail, Scholl said.
