Jaywalker Struck, Killed by Passing Car
A man jaywalking across Vanowen Street in the middle of a block near the Van Nuys airport was struck and killed by a car driven by a 30-year-old Northridge woman, Los Angeles police said Sunday.
Lorenzo Garcia of Van Nuys, whose age was not known, was crossing the street near Valjean Avenue at about 8:35 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by the car, Officer Douglas Burns said. Garcia was taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, where he died.
The driver of the car that hit Garcia was identified as Rebecca Simons, Burns said. She was not charged.
