Vandals have broken off the tip of a bronze rifle muzzle from a statue at the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Sacramento for the second time in two months, authorities said. A six-inch section of the rifle, which rests against a statue of a soldier reading a letter from home, was snapped off. Earlier, a two-inch section of rifle barrel also was broken from a plaque. No arrests have been made, State Police said. “This is the work of one person who feels it’s exciting to destroy things,” said B.T. Collins, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission member. “If it had been for political reasons somebody would have left a note.”
