House Speaker Jim Wright

House Speaker Jim Wright has only been accused. Innocent until proven guilty, remember? Obviously not.

Your editorial “Wright Should Resign” (April 18) is way out of line. Your logic is very Ed Meese-like in suggesting that suspects wouldn’t be so unless they were guilty of something.

Instead of jumping on the Republican-led bandwagon to smear a prominent Democrat, so obviously to counter the embarrassing legacy of the Reagan Administration sleaze, let’s go after those whom there is more than just accusation against, but evidence as well. It’s time, under Article II, Section IV, of the Constitution, to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush for his role in the Iran-Contra affair.
