Prisoners rampaged through two cell wings of a British jail, and dozens conducted a rooftop protest of living conditions, prison officers reported. The Risley center near Warrington, designed to hold 500 inmates in single cells, now accommodates 600 men and 140 women awaiting trial. The trouble began when inmates tried to overpower guards unlocking cells for an exercise period, authorities said. Four guards suffered minor injuries; no prisoners were hurt. Up to 40 inmates held out on the roof.
