Anaheim : Operator Injured When His Crane Falls Over

Share

A 52-year-old man was listed in stable condition at UCI Medical Center after he leaped from a toppling crane Wednesday morning while working on a sewer reconstruction project.

The man, whose name was being withheld until relatives were notified, was working with an independent contractor on the city’s project in the 1600 block of West Ball Road, according to Fire Chief Steve Magliocco. Officials said they were uncertain where the man lived and whether he was self-employed.

Magliocco said the man was operating the crane off the back of a flatbed truck at 7:56 a.m. When he attempted to move a large pipe into a ditch, the crane tipped over.

The operator jumped from the crane in the opposite direction and fell about 10 feet to the ground. He suffered minor injuries to his knees and one of his arms, Magliocco said.
