Former California Atty. Gen. Evelle Younger, who as a tough district attorney oversaw the prosecution of Charles Manson and Robert F. Kennedy assassin Sirhan Sirhan, was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home today. He was 70.

Police were called to Younger’s home on Thrasher Avenue at 8:30 a.m. and officers found him dead of what appeared to be natural causes, Officer Bill Frio said.

Along with his public service careers as California’s and Los Angeles County’s top prosecutor, Younger was a Municipal and Superior Court judge. In 1978, he was an unsuccessful Republican candidate against Gov. Jerry Brown.

He was appointed to the Superior Court bench in 1958 and became Los Angeles district attorney in 1964. He was California attorney general from 1970 to 1978.

When he lost to Brown he had been in public service for 37 years, 25 of which were in elected office.
