The Atlanta Braves confirmed today that they have held talks with Cleveland Gary, a Rams first-round draft pick who says he wants to play baseball.

“We have talked with Gary and his agent,” said Braves spokesman Jim Schultz, adding that he did not know whether Gary was close to being signed.

Gary, a fullback who finished his college football career at Miami after transferring from Georgia in 1985, told WTVX-TV in West Palm Beach, Fla., that he is “definitely interested in a career in professional baseball.”

“I tried out for the Braves for three days about a month ago,” he said. “They wanted to sign me right away.”
