Share

Laguna Beach businesswoman Martha Newkirk has been selected to serve a 2-year term on the University of California Board of Regents, becoming only the second UC Irvine representative to be appointed to the board.

Newkirk, who earned her Ph.D. in social ecology from UCI, will start serving as a regent-designate in July, if approved by the board at its May 18 and 19 meeting. After a year, she will become a full voting regent for 1 year.

Newkirk was elected by the UCI Alumni Assn., which names one person every 7 years to the 30-member board that governs the nine-campus system.
