Preliminary OK at Bethlehem: Officials of the United Steelworkers of America voted to grant preliminary approval to a new contract with Pittsburgh-based Bethlehem Steel Corp., the nation’s second-largest steelmaker, that would raise steelworkers’ wages at the company 8.09%. If approved, the contract, which includes new profit-sharing, inflation adjustment and overtime policies, would be the first settlement with one of the four major steelmakers whose labor pacts expire July 31. The agreement also calls for wage hikes in 1991 and 1992.
