6-2 Black Who Can’t Dunk Wonders Where Parents Went Wrong
I am a 6-foot-2 college graduate with a master’s degree. Scott Ostler’s column on the white athlete brought to mind my youth, when I often dreamed of slam-dunking but could never attain the proper altitude.
On my best day I could only touch the rim. I always felt I never realized the ultimate as a basketball player because I couldn’t dunk.
Sounds like a white guy talking, doesn’t it?
Afraid not, I’m an African-American. Ever since the NBC special on “Black Athletes--Fact and Fiction,” I have been asking myself: Where did my parents go wrong?
