A van that ran a red light on Devonshire Street in Granada Hills struck a Volkswagen broadside, killing one passenger and injuring the car’s driver and another passenger, Los Angeles police said.

A 30-year-old Sylmar man in the car’s front passenger seat died at the crash site, the intersection of Devonshire and Zelzah Avenue. The collision occurred at 7:25 a.m. Sunday, Officer Dennis Smith said.

Rescue workers used a hydraulic device to extricate the driver, Lee Davis, 24, and a 15-year-old passenger, Smith said. Both are Sylmar residents. Names of the two passengers were withheld until relatives could be notified.

Davis was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with multiple broken bones, police said. The 15-year-old suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge.

The van’s driver, identified as Gad Revivo, 27, of Northridge, was treated for minor injuries at Granada Hills Community Hospital, Smith said.

Police will ask the Los Angeles city attorney’s office to file misdemeanor manslaughter charges against Revivo, Smith said.
