Culver City : Council Asks for Gun Law
At Councilman Paul Jacobs’ request, the City Council asked the city attorney to draw up an ordinance regulating the sale of automatic and semiautomatic weapons. The council voted 4 to 1 for the measure, with Councilman Richard Alexander opposed.
Jacobs said the council had acted correctly when it decided at a meeting earlier this spring to wait for federal and state legislation on gun control, but added that he thought the city had to pass an ordinance in the absence of legislation at higher levels.
Alexander said he opposed the motion because he thought Gov. George Deukmejian would sign a gun-control bill soon.
