18-Wheeler Loses Brakes, Kills 5 in Mountain Town

LAUGHLINTOWN, Pa. —
A tractor-trailer hauling heavy machinery lost its brakes on a mountain road and barreled into a town Thursday, killing five people as it smashed into cars and an apartment building, authorities said.
The 18-wheeler roared into town with its lights flashing and horns blaring, witnesses said. Two people in the truck and three people in a car were killed, authorities said.
