Pardon Urged in ’36 Rape Conviction of Radio Performer

Share

State Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) has asked Gov. George Deukmejian to pardon a 1930s Los Angeles radio personality who was imprisoned on a false accusation of rape.

Roberti made the request for Pedro J. Gonzales, 93, of Nestor, Calif., who had a KMPC radio show before he was convicted of rape in 1936.

Gonzales had served six years of a 50-year sentence when his accuser recanted her testimony, but he was never officially pardoned.
