NATION : Trainman Charged in Teen’s Injury
An Amtrak conductor arrested for allegedly pushing a man out of a moving train has been suspended from duty and charged with assault in the incident that severed the victim’s left leg, authorities said today.
David Abel, 19, of Malden was pushed from the commuter train Friday in Wilmington after he and his brother were allegedly refused entry by the conductor because they were determined to be rowdy, police said. Abel was listed in fair condition today at Massachusetts General Hospital after surgery two days earlier to amputate his leg.
The conductor, Stephen Benson, 37, of North Andover, was arrested by Wilmington police after the commuter train from Lowell arrived in Boston. Authorities said he was charged with assault and battery.
