Thomas E. Freston has been appointed chairman and chief executive of MTV Networks. He had been president and chief executive since August, 1987, and will continue to have overall responsibility for the company. MTV Networks, owned by New York-based Viacom International, consists of the cable television programming networks MTV: Music Television, VH-1, Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.
