IN BRIEF : Rooney Family Buys More of Steelers
The family of the late Art Rooney Sr., who founded the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1933, has increased its ownership in the team from 65% to 80%.
Jack McGinley, a Steelers vice president, and his sister, Rita, have sold some of their stock to the Rooney family, reducing their share from 35% to 20%. The McGinleys, also of Pittsburgh, are longtime minority owners of the team.
The change in ownership, begun before Art Rooney died last August, was approved by the 27 other NFL owners in a vote taken by fax machine. Dan Rooney, Steelers president and the oldest of Art Rooney’s five sons, declined to say what the transaction cost.
