Local News in Brief : Church Wins Council OK to Build Sanctuary

Share

Members of the Mandarin Baptist Church of Northridge received Los Angeles City Council approval Tuesday to build a $1.2-million sanctuary and auditorium, a project that had been opposed by neighbors who fear increased traffic through their neighborhood.

To reduce the impact on the neighborhood of predominantly single-family homes, the church was required to build a 131-car parking lot, construct a wall around the development, install lush landscaping and end all functions by 9:30 p.m.

Residents had complainted that their neighborhood is already burdened by traffic from nearby Cal State Northridge. The council unanimously approved the permit to build on the site at 17833 Nordhoff St.
