Long Beach : County Allocates Grants for Homeless Programs

The County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved $45,000 in grants for homeless programs in Long Beach and Venice. Another $5,000 will go to a food bank at a community and senior citizens center in east Compton.

The allocations come from $50,000 set aside annually for homeless agencies in each of the five supervisorial districts.

On Supervisor Deane Dana’s recommendation, the Low Income and Elderly Community Assistance Center on Westminster Avenue in Venice was awarded $23,000, while the downtown Long Beach Homeless Shelter on Chestnut Avenue will get $22,000 this year.

The board also awarded $8,330 to the Long Beach Council PTA drug education program and $10,000 for the city of Lakewood to develop an anti-gang and drug video to be shown to community groups.
