Cerritos : Mehta Wins Appointment to State School Board
Gov. George Deukmejian has appointed Paras Mehta of Cerritos as the student representative on the state Board of Education.
Mehta, 15, will serve as a voting member of the board for one year until his term expires in August, 1990. The appointment will require state Senate confirmation. He replaces student representative Maryela Martinez of Irvine.
Mehta, a junior at Cerritos High School in the ABC Unified School District, was most recently announced as the winner in a United Nations essay contest.
He is a member of the Model United Nations Club, the California Scholastic Federation and Mu Alpha Theta, an international math society.
