Charger Draft Pick Jones Considers Offer in CFL

Share

Seventh-round draft pick Terrence Jones has left the Chargers to consider an offer to play quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

“The Calgary Stampeders have made Terrence an offer that is competitive with the Chargers’ initial offer,” agent Nick Noriea said. “More importantly, Calgary wants Terrence to play quarterback.”

Jones, a college quarterback who finished his career as Tulane’s all-time career total offense leader with 9,445 yards, played only wide receiver and running back during the Chargers’ obligatory mini-camp and voluntary workouts.

If Jones, 6-feet-1, 210 pounds, signs to play in the CFL, the Chargers would retain his exclusive NFL negotiating rights for four years, after which he would become a free agent. But the Chargers own the right of first refusal if Jones attempts to sign with another NFL team after the four years.
