Half-Staff Flags Till Noon on Memorial Day

Share

The flag should always be flown on national and state holidays and on those occasions proclaimed by the President.

On Memorial Day, the flag should be half-staffed until noon. The flag, when flown at half-staff (i.e. when it is halfway between the top and bottom of the staff), should be first hoisted briskly to the peak for an instant and then lowered ceremoniously to the half-staff position until noon only, then raised again to the top of the staff for the balance of the day until lowered at sunset.

Memorial Day is a patriotic holiday to honor all American military personnel who gave their lives for our beloved nation in past wars and conflicts. The flag is the symbol of our nation, our Constitution and our hard-fought freedoms.
