Chris Waddle scored midway through the first half and Steve Bull added a goal late in the game as England defeated Scotland, 2-0, in the 107th annual soccer match between the rival neighbors that was marred by fan violence at Glasgow, Scotland.

Clashes between fans in and around the stadium at Hampden Park led to 96 arrests, Glasgow police said, and at least 150 other people were arrested for soccer-related violence in other parts of Glasgow.

The yearly game, oldest rivalry in international soccer, often has been the setting for fan violence in recent years. Police in Glasgow expected problems and made special plans for controlling hooliganism surrounding the game.
