Life in ‘Fast Lane’

Share

It has been a long time since I have read such a depressing article as that on converting the automobile into a mobile office (“Fast-Lane Environments” by Connie Koenenn, May 17).

Our streets and freeways are already clogged with incompetent drivers who are applying makeup, arranging their hair, eating, drinking, and telephoning, while in partial control of a ton of rapidly moving metal, and the pollution caused by the number of automobiles is (or should be) a cause for grave concern.

Now the Ford Motor Co., instead of making an effort to reduce gasoline consumption, is starting a new movement to encourage even more lack of attention to road conditions and to further increase the consumption of gasoline in order to power more electronic distractions for the rush-hour driver.

It must be assumed that the Ford Motor Co.’s directors have neither children nor grandchildren, nor do they have any sense of responsibility toward cleaning up the environment.
