Imbibe unleashed a powerful stretch run and pulled away for a six-length victory over Irish Actor in the $183,600 Peter Pan Stakes for 3-year-olds at New York, earning a spot in the Belmont Stakes on June 10.
Imbibe covered the 1 1/8 miles of the Peter Pan in 1:48:3 on a fast track, running the final furlong in 12.1 seconds. Imbibe returned $9.40, $3.40 and $2.80, while Irish Actor paid $3.40 and $2.40 and Pro Style was $8.40 to show.
The victory gave jockey Angel Cordero a sweep of the weekend stakes races at Belmont Park. He also took Saturday’s Acorn for 3-year-old fillies aboard Open Mind.
